Job survey sought

The Federation of Labour wahted the Government to conduct a labour survey of all industries, which could be done very quickly through the appropriate organisations, said its president (Mr T. E. Skinner). “The survey should show! where and in w’hat industry there is the most severe unemployment,” he said. “Armed with this knowledge, the Government would be in a position to judge what type of labour is needed in New Zealand, if any, and enable the retraining of the workers redundant in any industry.” The Minister of Labour (Mr Faulkner) said later that' a labour survey of all, ndustries was already under! way.
Coupled with it was a survey of industries where unemployment might be occurring, and districts in which the problem might arise, Mr Faulkner said.
