Research into cannabis and driving
Research into the effects of cannabis on driving skills is among nearly 60 items of traffic safety research in progress in New Zealand listed in a circular prepared by the 31inistry of Transport.
Tw.o workers are studying the effects of cannabis in combination with alcohol, one is studying the effects of cannabis by itself, and another is studying the effects of such drugs as mescaline and LSD, the circular says. Another worker is studying the effects of various medications.
Research on human factors includes a study of the accident involvement of different ethnic' groups and social classes, the psychological testing of drivers, and an evaluation of defensive driving courses. Studies of vehicle factors' include work on noise, the durability of seat belts, and -ithe performance of brake fluids, brake hoses and child restraining devices.. Work on environmental factors includes research into marking paints, suitable plants for median barriers, and skid-resistance characteristics., •
