Police hunt for rifle
More than 20 policemen surrounded and searched for a rifle in a house in Lincoln Road occupied by members of the Epitaph Riders motorcycle gang yesterday afternoon.
The police got a warrant to search the house after they received information that motorists on the road to Akaroa had been stopped and assaulted by motor-cyclists near Little River. No-one complained to the police, but a rifle was said to have been flourished. Detectives searched inside the house and uniformed men went over the grounds, while police dog handlers and more policemen in cars waited nearby. No firearms were found.
