Kite, Ginn go 9 under par
(New Zealand Preet Aisoeiaticm)
AUCKLAND.
T. Kite, of Texas, and S. Ginn, of Australia, have finished the second round of the City of Auckland Golf Classic nine under par.
They are six strokes ahead of their nearest rivals, H. Green and A. Miller, of the United States, and T. Ball, of Australia.
Kite scored the best second round score—a four-under-par 67. This comes after his 66 in the first round (and his 66 in the Pro-Am on Wednesday). In none of these three rounds has he scored worse than a four. He showed some weaknesses today, however, when he scored his first one-overs in New Zea-land-two of them. Kite faced one problem during his round. His drive at the first kicked off the hard fairway, and the ball finished on a gravel path, behind a shrub and within swinging distance of a bridge railing. Play was held up as he
sought a ruling. No official appeared, so Kite played two balls, one of them provisional, dropping it two clublengths away. With his second he scored a birdie 3, thanks to a 20ft putt With his first, played off the gravel, he scored a one-over.
Kite had to wait until he finished his round before a ruling was made. The rules committee ruled that because the railing interfered with his backswing, he was allowed relief.
