Daylight saving

Sir, —“Observer’s” sympathy for farmers is unnecessary since units of time are not hard and fast — each person can live to his own set of rules if he so wishes. So if a farmer who has always got up at 6 a.m. does not want the status quo changed he can either put his clock forward an hour with everyone else, or keep his alarm clock unchanged and remember it is an hour behind official time. Either of these moves would mean no effective change in his day.— Yours etc., JOHN ROY November 14, 1974.
