Prison team wins debate
I N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 14. A team from Paremoremo Prison tonight won the Auckland Debating Association’s 1974 Athenaeum Cup competition. The debate final was on the subject that “Trade unionism has outlived its usefulness.” Paremoremo took the negative, and a team called. Forum, holder of the cup on and off for several years, took the affirmative. Apart from the leader, who was released from prison: eight weeks ago, the debate was the winning team’s first look at life “outside” for some years. Although two prison officers kept an eye on the threeman team, who were dressed in smart suits, thev were out of sight of the audience of 300.
Prolonged applause greeted the judges' verdict.
