Riccarton voting
Final figures for the election of councillors for the Riccarton Borough have been declared.
The councillors, all Riccarton Citizens’ Association candidates, are: John Holmes Hurst (2472 votes), Peter John McAloon (2427), Roy Stanley Lester (2417), Alfred William Taylor (2370), Mervyn Nathaniel Cooper (2351), George Richardson Martinet (2316), Derek Andrew Anderson (2211), and Peter Desmond O’Meeghan (2191). The Mayor (Mr R. W. J. Harrington) was re-elected unopposed. Messrs Taylor, and Marriner are new members who fill vacancies caused by the retirements of Messrs F. R. Longley and J. B. Midgley.
The only change in positions in the voting figures from those on election night is that Cr Anderson’s total is higher than that of Cr O'Meeghan. Mr D. W. Parlane was the only other candidate. He received 1804 votes.
