Fours champion

The team skipped by G. L. Barnes had a comfortable victory in the Canterbury fours championships at the Canterbury Indoors Bowls Association’s hall at the week-end.

Playing the veteran J. Duncan Barnes coasted into a 10-1 lead after seven ends, threes on the fourth and fifth ends helping him into this secure position. However, Duncan replied with a three on the eighth, but the effort was a little late, and the last end was a formality. Duncan had a stern battle in the semi-finals against the champion, L. G. McLennan, winning a low-scoring game, 5-4, after an extra end. Barnes also had a hard fight before beating D. Watts, 10-7. Quarter-final results:—

The same team that scored the tense win over Southland will go to Blenheim on October 5 to play the North Island holders of the A. S. Paterson Trophy. The only minor difference is that Barnes and R.
