Holiday programmes
Sir, — I should like to make a suggestion to the businessmen of Christchurch who, understandably, are complaining about the "child plague” which hits them during the school holidays. Perhaps such firms would be willing to offer help to* any groups who are prepared to organise holiday programmes for schoolchildren of any age. Business firms might consider offering financial help, gifts of materials or seconding persons who have any enthusiasm to share with bored children. The City Council’s sport and recreation sub - committee has just subsidised a workshop for 200 children at Christchurch South Intermediate School. From them, their parents and secondary schoolchildren there is an overwhelming demand for a similar one in August. Assistance as outlined above would be welcome there and I have no doubt that other groups would appreciate the support of businessmen. — Yours etc., OLIVE FRAMPTON. May 20, 1974.
