Regional league leaders
Rangers and Caversham are I striding away with the northern and southern sections of the 1974 Southern League soccer competition. But they' have got into their present dominant positions in different fashions.
While Rangers were scraping together a 1-0 victory over Halswell United, with a goal scored by M. Parker after only tour minutes. Caversham overwhelmed Queen’s Park, 7-0. Before this match, Queen’s Park had conceded only three goals in five games. Rangers now have a threepoint lead after five rounds,’ Caversham is four points ahead of the runner-up after six rounds. Both teams have 100 per cent records in the competitions. Woolston, also unbeaten, but with three drawn fixtures, remains Rangers’ closest rival, and Dunedin City, another unbeaten side, but having drawn four games, is second to Caversham. Results and tables:— Northern section: Halswell United 0, Rangers 1; University 0, Shamrock 5; Western 1, Timaru City 1; Woolston W.M.C. 12, Technical 2.
Southern section: Caversham 7, Queen’s Park 0: Dunedin City 2, Mosgiel 2; Roslyn-Wakari 3, Green Island 1.
Christchurch United reserves, with a narrow win over High School Old Boys, retained their lead in the northern qualifying ccn.pe tition. Results: Nomads United 3, Timaru Thistle 0; Northern Hearts 2.
