WING DUG UP
A wing for the Lockheed Hudson under restoration at Ferrymead was dug out of the ground at a farm at Dunback at the week-end. Members of the Ferrymead Aeronautical Society went to the farm after the owner, Mr Angus Cameron, had offered to give the wing if members dug it up. The centre section and tail components had been buried to act as fill. Another section was retrieved from a tree where it had been used for a children’s tree house and yet another was found floating in a stream.
The section which had been buried was not in as good repair as the other pieces but was usable and able to be repaired without too much trouble. It took members of the society four to five hours to dislodge the wing from the ground. When the plane is assembled it will be one of only 10 Hudsons left in the world.
