more than 1.5 seconds. Pressing the clutch pedal restarts the engine. The device, which will 'cost about $5O, is said to cut. fuel consumption in heavy traffic by 10 to 15 per cent, and to lower emissions by about 30 per cent.
The device is adjusted so that it does not operate if the car’s right-turn indicator is going, if the car is on a slope, if the engine is very hot, when the driver’s door is open, or when battery voltage is low. Overseas experts have expressed doubts about the extra wear the device causes to a car's starting system, and the extra drain on the battery.
