Oil and paper Modern paper - element, car air-cleaners. 1 suspect, are something of an imposition on the motoring public. Do you remember those oilbath air-cleaners ail cars used to have? They were fitted to vehicles coming to this country, in particular, because of their great effectiveness in very dusty conditions. And effective they were: it was common, on cleaning one out after a couple of thousand miles, to get half a cup of silt from the bottom of the pan. Best of all, the job took only minutes, and cost no more than the price of a little fuel to wash the element, and a little oil in the pan. Then came progress.
