‘Nurseries’ of sport
An allegation that sports clubs with a large membership of schoolchildren are “unpaid baby-sitters’’ has been made by the Rangiora Soccer Club. The club — which organises matches for 220 children — could muster only nine persons at its annual meeting, and is reconvening the meeting tonight: with a threat of going into recess. The town’s swimming and athletic clubs are facing a similar problem — called “creeping apathy” by a soccer club official.
