Driving his McLaren M23' immaculately around the 12bend 5.5 km track, Fittipaldi beat J. Scheckter (South Africa), in a Tyrrell, by more than lOsec. A. Merzario (Italy), in an ■ Iso Marlboro, was third and J. Maas (West Germany), in a Surtees TSIS, was fourth. Grass-track.—The Wairarapa rider, W. Lambess, has made a clean sweep of the national one-; mile grass-track motor-cycle J titles. He won the open 500 c.c.l and 350 c.c. championships at the Clareville racecourse, i Masterton, and for good measure also won the Wairarapa Automobile Association's Trophy event, which was run for the first time since 1963.
