L Polugavevsky, in the eighth game of their match in Moscow. Karpov, aged 22. -will meet ’he former world champion. B. Spassky, who last week defeated his American opponent. R. Byrne, in San Juan. Puerto Rico. Karpov, the Leningrad champion, earned a reputation as a "giant killer" last tear after defeating Spassky in Moscow. Karpov had three wins against Polugayevsky.
