Sir. —I read with interest the message on the tops of certain well-known cans of fruit juice that urges the drinker to dispose of the pull-off rings in the can. May I suggest it is the can, itself that the drinkers’ attention should be drawn to. How about J ‘Don’t just drop me, put me in the bin,” or “I hate lying on the ground.” Anyway, the adver-
tising boys should be able to come up with something that will stop the can rearing its ugly head in all those places where you least expect to see it. I would not like our New Zealand roads to look like some Australian roads where literally dozens of cans line the roadside. The top of the can is a very good place for some, “drinker education” so the space should be used to make people think before they throw down either the ring or the can.—Yours etc., ROSEMARY BISS.
