Wasps still at school

I (From Our Own Reporter) I GREYMOUTH, Feb. 4. , The wasp problem at the • tiny Haupiri School last year; • may have been overcome. There were still wasps, but ! i fewer than in the past, Mr B. R. Pearson, the sole teachier, said yesterday. The decline in the number ;of the insects is attributed I partly to the laying of poison (around the school, which has a roll of nine pupils. But bushmen at the Kopara mill : have also reported that there are fewer wasps about. The poison bait laid in the ■ district was developed by the Department of Scientific and I Industrial Research. The (wasps take the bait back to (the nest, where it is fed to (the queen. When she dies, the • nest dies. “The real test will come • around the end of this month (and next month when the • season is at its peak,’’ said (Mr Pearson.
