Southdowns sell well
ty.Z Press Association INVERCARGILL. Top prices for Southdown rams at the Southland A. and P annual stud ram and ewe fair this week were well ahead of last year's. Tite best price for a ram was S2OOO, obtained by J. G. Sutton, of Drummond, from D. H. Robertson and Sons, of Gore. Of 87 Southdown rams ottered, 47 sold for $18,400, an average of $392. The aggregate was S3OOO up on last year, but the average last year was $5ll. The highlight was the complete dispersal of Mr F. E. Holroyd's 34-year-old Greenvale stud at Wrights Bush. He had 12 rams in the sale as well as twol slud sires, 10 ram lambs. 36 ewe lambs. 42 two-tooth ewes, and 195 mixed-age ewes. His stock gros-ed him S 16.445. The mixed-age ewes brought 53420. an average of 543. and a best price of SlBO. One-shear ewes brought $3565 a top price of *220. and seven made SlOO ori more Ten ram lambs sold for W.l and the ewe lambs for Other breeds offered at the fair did not meet much demand, although two pens of tiiree oneshear Suffolk ewes oft'ered for T C. and C. L. Shortus. of Waimate, brought 985 and 565 a head respectively. A Suffolk ram offered on account of Miss Ruth Adamson, of Wedderbvn. brought $l5O Two South Suffolk rams offered on account of G. O. Hamilton, of Waimate, sold for $2OO and SISO. Border Leicester*. Poll Dorset*, and a South Dorset were passed.
