Obstacle course
fN.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) Running 26 miles is hard enough, but the English marathon gold medallist, lan Thompson, had to hurdle a Christchurch dog during his race. “I think it was Basset hound,’ ’he said. "It rushed out at the four kilo mark, down by the river, ?.nd I had to hurdle him. I gave him a good clip on the ear, I think, and one or two of the runners also had to try to avoid him. He seemed to be excited about the race and tried to join in.” Thompson also had trouble with a camerabearing helicopter which hovered down close on top of several runners and had to be waved away, and with a police car which left him only a two-foot gap between the car and a bus.
