Cartage rates up

All rural and town cartage rates went up today. The Secretary of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek) had approved the rise as a direct result of the increase tn fuel [prices, said the Road Carriers’ Association. Maximum rural and route cartage rates go up by 2.1 per cent and maximum town cartage rates by 1.5 per cent. However, the Ministry of Transport’s chief controller of road transport policy (Mr G. H. White) pointed out today that a right of appeal was provided under the Transport Act.
