Australian teams WIN SOCCER...

(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright! HONG KONG. Australia made World Cup soccer history yesterday by beating South Korea, 1-0, in the Asian series play-off and qualifying for the final 16 in West Germany next year. A great goal in the 70th minute by the midfield specialist, J. Mackay, put Australia into the World Cup finals for the first time. The play-off ended 270 minutes of drama-charged soccer.

Australia and South Korea drew in the first leg in Sydney, 0-0, and the second leg in Seoul, 2-2. The winning goal was one worthy to decide the match. South Korea was penalised in midfield, and R. Richards lifted a high-dipping centre into the goal mouth. J. Rooney, always foraging for the ball, knocked it back to Mackay, who gathered it coolly and from 35 metres shot high into the net.

Australia is the tenth team through to the World Cup finals joining West Germany, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Scotland, Poland, Italy, East Germany and Chile.
