Tearooms destroyed
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Feb. 18. The Bruce Bay tearooms, general store and post office on the Haast Pass highway in South Westland was destroyed by fire about 11 p.m. on Saturday. The owner of the premises is Mr P. S. R. Thompson, whose adjoining residence was scorched by the flames. Bruce Bay residents formed a bucket brigade to save the house. The Fox Glacier Fire Briade raced 30 miles to the scene but was unable to save the store. The cause of the outbreak is unknown, but damage is estimated at $15,000.
