Rise approved by authority

(N.Z. Press Association) WELUNGTON, Dec. 8. The Remuneration Authority has approved a pay settlement for local-body drivers, giving them a 7.85 per cent rise. Increases in allowances were approved, too.

When the authority is abolished, settlements it has not considered will automatically go to the Arbitral tion Court but some of these might not be made into awards before the court goes into recess for Christmas. The court already has more than 50 settlements being processed, and the registrar (Mr R. D. Lumsden) today said he expected more to come.

Some are almost ready but others have been kept for decisions from the Remuneration Authority. Mr Lumsden said these would be processed as quickly as possible; the court’s staff had been increased to handle them.

The court goes into recess at Christmas and usually resumes towards the end of January. —J.
