Woman teacher charged
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BELFORT (France), Dec. 7. Parents in the eastern French town of Belfort reported a young woman teacher to the police for discussing with her girls a leaflet entitled, “Let’s learn to make love, let’s learn to have fun.”
Nicole Mercier, aged 26, was charged with immoral conduct after one of her students had suggested that the natural progression to a debate on Freud would be a debase on the sex leaflet. The tract, which deals with has been circulated unofficially in schools in many areas of France, and was distributed by a students’ action committee at the girls’ lycee in which Mercier teaches. The Belfort Parents’ Association immediately complained to the police, and Mercier was charged on Monday. There have since been student strikes and demonstrations.
