Woman to lead Bundestag
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BONN, December 7. x The West German Chancellor (Mr Brandt) and other leaders of the Social Democratic Party have chosen a woman to preside over the new Bundestag (Lower House of Parliament) which is due to assemble in Bonn next Wednesday. She is Mrs Ann-Marie Renger, aged 53, who has sat in Parliament for 19 years. She succeeds the Christian Democrat President of the House, Mr Kai-uwe von Hassel. The Bundestag President is responsible for the control of the 496 deputies, mostly men, and for the conduct of business. Mrs Renger has been known as “Miss Bundestag” for many years, though she is a grandmother.
