PAY CLAIMS SETTLED
Drivers and painters (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7, Oil company and taxi drivers yesterday settled pay increases ranging from 7.9 to 12.5 per cent. The 12.5 per cent increase covers a new classification for oil company drivers handling tankers of 6000 gallons or more, bringing their rate to $66.13. Tanker drivers on the lower rate were given a 7.9 per cent increase, bringing their ratej to $56.75, from $52.59. The award covers about 700 drivers. The 7.9 per cent increase on taxi drivers’ base rates gives them $4.10 a week extra, taking their rate to $56.94. A new award for painters except those in Wanganui, Hawke’s Bay and Otago, has been settled in line with thr building industry award, and give* the painters a 6.1 par cent increase. This brings their rate to $1.63 an hour,. 4
