LEAGUE TITLE

No change expected (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND.: The Rothmans inter-provin-cial Rugby league championship seems bound to be given a second trial next season The event, which involved all the provincial leagues this year, has apparently won widespread support. At the New Zealand League council meeting last evening there were references to the problems in financing such a complex operation and to the minpr dissatisfaction one or two leagues felt about the draw they had. But there was agreement, too, that the championship was the most successful that the N.Z.R.L. has yet devised and as such, it should be tried again with no significant alterations. So far, the French League has not replied to the N.Z.R.L. invitation to make a tour of New Zealand next year, although it is still understood that the tour is on, Under consideration is the length of the tour. Originally, it was to be for six games, covering probably three week-ends. The N.Z.R.L. may now suggest a longer tour that could be undertaken independently of Australia.
