Indian’s unbeaten record broken
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Satish Mohan, the Indian champion, is now the only unbeaten player in the world open billiards championship at Pukekohe. Last evening, his countryman, M. Ferreira, who had won his first five matches, was defeated by the Australian professional, E. Charlton. 1206-1036. It was a game that Charlton was not confident of winning. Snooker is his game, and he came into this billiards tournament “a little underdone.” Charlton opened a gap of 200 at the end of the first two-hour session and only once, late in the match, did Ferreira threaten the lead. That challenge came with scarcely more than 20 minutes to go when Ferreira virtually sprinted through to a break of 92, and for a short while it seemed as if he might wipe out the deficit, by then 300, so sure was his touch. But his effort came too late.
Results (with best breaks in parenthesis):— Charlton 1206 (121, 134, 79, 52,
54), Ferreira 1036 (95, 107, 59. 79, 92. 86). P. Morgan (Ireland). 1226 (53, 171. 101, 59, 50, 107, 74, 99), 6. McConachy (New Zealand), 711 (80, 99, 60, 62). J. Fryer (England), 983 (95, 93, 93), K. Kennerley (England), 967 (83. 78).
