Collins Bros sell diary division
Edwards Dunlop and Company, Ltd, Sydney, will purchase the stationery and diary manufacturing division of Collins Brothers and Company, Ltd (incorporated in the United Kingdom), a whollyowned subsidiary of William Collins and Sons (Holding), Ltd, Glasgow.
In a joint statement a director of William Collins (Mr D. W. Nickson) and the managing director of Edwards Dunlop (Mr D. O. Anderson) said that agreement on the transfer had been reached in principle. Subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank and completion of the necessary legal formalities, the acquisition will be effective from December 1, and will be for a cash consideration for the assets of the stationery and diary business.
The stationery and diary business will continue to operate under the existing management, and the managing director of Collins Brothers (Mr David Bateman) will continue to be associated with the new owners in an advisory capacity. Existing arrangements for members of the Collins staff, including superannuation, will be preserved.
The present intention is that Collins in future would publish under the name William Collins (New Zealand), and Edwards Dunlop would manufacture stationery and diaries under the name Collins Bros. Stationery, Both companies see this as a logical arrangement after the pattern successfully set in Australia for many years, where Edwards Dunlop have developed Collins Bros. Stationery and Diary business, leaving William Collins (Australia) free to concentrate their full resources on expanding their publishing operations.
