Mixed trading on quiet Australian markets
Trading was dull and movements were mixed on Australian exchanges yesterday. Industrial issues were generally steady, mining prices were mixed and oils weaker. Most price variations were small.
The Bank of Adelaide on 310 c and the B.N.S.W. on a buyer quote of 930 c each gained 10c, but the National was down 5c to 395 c. B.H.P. fell 5c to 1090 c and C.S.R. dropped 16c to 540 c. Stocks and Holdings rose 20c to 820 c, Hardie improved 10c to 770 c, and Mainline slipped 10c to 520 c. In Sydney, Hamersley rose 15c to 290 c but in Melbourne C.R.A. fell 5c to 640 c, Peko was down 10c to 980 c, and W.M.C. 5c to 305 c. Poseidon sold at 1000 c. Brother interim Brother Distributors, Ltd, will pay an interim dividend of 10 per cent on December 1, ex November 21. The directors report that sales increased 34 per cent and the net profit increased 19 per cent for the half-year compared with the same period in 1971.
