Two safes blown
Two safes were blown open in Christchurch at the weekend, bringing to four the number of safes cracked since Wednesday night. A total of $370 has been stolen. About $2OO was stolen when a safe at Smiths City Market, Colombo Street, was broken on Friday night. The burglars broke in by smashing a showroom window. On Sunday night, $l9 was stolen from a safe at the Canterbury Provincial Providential Society, 236 Oxford Terrace.
A shotgun, a .22 rifle and several hundred rounds of ammunition were among goods valued at $331 taken when the premises of Keith Galloway, Ltd, Rangiora, were broken into between 1.30 p.m. on Saturday and 7.45 p.m. on Sunday. A spotlight and a head lantern were also taken. The shotgun is valued at $216.
Entry was gained by forcing the back door of the premises.
