Dust problem complaint
It was time the county council did something drastic about the dust blown from Kempthome Prosser’s fertiliser works at Hornby, said a member of the Hornby County Borough Council (Cr K Chisholm) at the annual meeting of the Paparua County Council last evening. “In a recent nor’-wester, you couldn’t see across the Main South Road for two hours because of the dust,” he said. “I've had two lots of guttering in five years. The dust just rots it out.” The chairman (Mr D. H. Warren) said that the council kept a close watch on the plant, and, like the Health Department, was satisfied that the firm complied with requirements. One problem, said the County Engineer (Mr A. Dyhrberg) was dust accumulating round the plant. Periodically, the firm borrowed a county sweeper and cleared it.
