RUSSIAN SHIPS
A fleet of 10 Russian fishing vessels was sighted off the Canterbury coast yesterday, but when checked from the air by inspectors of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries yesterday afternoon they were two miles and a half outside the 12-mile fishing limit. They were not fishing at the time, but were lying at anchor, off the mouth of the Ashley River.
I The vessels, which were ; first seen early yesterday Imorning by a S.A.F.E. Airway flight from Wellington to Christchurch, comprised a 'research vessel, two motherj ships, and seven trawlers. ' No further inspection flight Ito the vessels is planned.
