CRICKET SQUAD

Show Day deadline The representative cricket squad will probably be named after the games against minor associations on Show Day. The convener of the Canterbury Plunket Shield selection panel (Mr I. B. Cromb) said last evening that the Canterbury teams for the Show Day games would be named this week-end.

“After being out of cricket so long, 1 have no preconceived ideas,” said Mr Cromb. “However, we cannot waste any time, as the first game is on December 2.” The training squad, he said, was “coming along very well.”

•T’m very pleased. They’re all starting to show improvement, and starting to feel they are doing well,” said Mr Cromb.

He said he had no plans to replace, in his squad, D. G. Trist, the opening bowler who yesterday said he would not be able to bowl again this season because of a back injury which will necessitate an bperation.

Recent additions to the squad include the Lancaster Park players, R. M. Gearry, B. C. Irving and A. E. Collins.
