Cup trials today

At least eight of the 14 candidates for Tuesday's New Zealand Cup will start this evening in the A. L. Matson Handleap at Addington Raceway. The event, timed for 7.30 p.m., will be run over 13 furlongs, with Manaroa the backmarker on 24 yards. An 11-race programme for horses engaged at the cup meeting will be run by the Canterbury Trotting Owners' and Breeders' Association, with the first of the equalisator events starting at 4 p.m. Earlier, starting at 2.30 p.m.. there will be three heats for two-year-old pacers run over 10 furlongs. The fields have all filled well, with the majority of the horses entered for the two days and two nights of the cup carnival engaged. Two equalisator doubles will be run, the first being on the First T. G. Fox Handicap and the H. W. Drewery Handicap, and the other on the Second G. R. Hunter Handicap and the F. E. Sutton Handicap.
