Industrials firm on mixed Australian markets
Industrial issues were slightly firmer and there was some interest in speculative shares on Australian exchanges yesterday. Established mining issues were again weak, and oils mixed. C.S.R. and the Bank of New South Wales firmed slightly. Bums Philp rose 10c at 470 c, while Lend Lease rose 15c. Mainline was steady at 520 c.
The shares of British Tobacco, which became ex rights, eased 25c to finish at 350 c. Courage Breweries and T.N.T. both fell sc. A.N.Z. Bank jumped 40c to 680 c in one of the best moves of the day. C.U.B. put on 16c at 520 c. Ansett gained 4c to 108 c on news of the considerably higher profit and the increased dividend. Most price movements among the oils were on low turnovers.
