Protest on S.A. trade
NEW YORK. Oct. 31.
New Zealand protested today against its inclusion in a United Nations list of "major trading partners" of South Africa, and asserted that [trade with that country amounted to only 0.7 per cent of New Zealand's total trade. Addressing the General Assembly Special Political Committee. considering the problem of apartheid, a member of the New Zealand delegation (Mr B. D. Zohrab) said a non-African country which was not listed had a total trade with South Africa last year more than three times greater than that of New Zealand.
This, he said, was not the only instance of misrepresentation. South Africa’s trade with “the entity cited as ‘Africa’ ” amounted in value to 410,600,000 rand last year. But this was not reflected in the U.N. figures.
