Noisy vehicles

Sir, —If this is the best Mr A. I. Garriock (traffic superintendent) can do in reply to “Sleepless Nights," by saying, “I can appreciate your correspondent’s feelings,” then it is certainly a bleak outlook for those of us who wish to get some rest at nights. He is obviously out of touch with public opinion.—Yours, etc., PATHETIC. November 1, 1972.

Sir, —Over the last 13 years we have put up with yowling cats at all hours, roosters that began their day at 4 a.m. yapping dogs, a series of motor-cycles each noisier than the one before, and cars with faulty mufflers, if any—all this interspersed with the odd workshop machine running half the night and motor mowers every Sunday. And, would you believe it? “The lot” from one house. A word of complaint brings a. reply of, “Oh, it’s not that bad,” or “It wasn’t that late,” or “we didn’t hear it.”—Yours, etc., ROBBIE. October 31, 1972.
