Brake lights
Sir, —As a regular motorist travelling in and out of Christchurch I am amazed at the number of cars with brake lights that fail to light up when stopping. I am sure that if the Ministry of Transport had a purge on vehicles that have inoperative stop lights, the number of unnecessary low-speed, rearend collisions would fall noticeably.—Yours, etc., TWITCH. October 27, 1972. [Mr A. Goldsmith, traffic superintendent, Ministry of Transport, replies: “I thank the correspondent for his interest. Although regular enforcement campaigns are conducted which include motor-vehicle lighting, particular attention will be given to this requirement.”]
