APPEAL UPHELD
Driver gets points back (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU. The appeal by the produc* tion saloon-car driver. L. Leonard, of Timaru, against his disqualification in the first race of the Castrol GTX national series has been upheld. Leonard was disqualified after the first round of the 10-round series, at Levin, because of the shock absorbers in his Chrysler Charger. He won the round, but lost the nine points for it on his disqualification. The appeal was heard by the special committee of the Motorsport Association, and a member of the council of the association was the respondent. The committee unanimously upheld the appeal and restored the points, giving Leonard a twopoint lead in group one of the championship. Leonard won the second round and the first heat in the third round. In the second heat, the car had engine trouble and he did not finish. A new engine has been flown from Adelaide for the car for the fourth round, at Pukekohe, on November 12.
