President’s croquet
The New Zealand Croquet Council’s president’s invitation event for junior section players began at Elmwood yesterday. Results were:
G. Roberts (Otago) 26, Miss J. Clarke (Hawke’s Bay) 19; Mrs O. Norris (Bay of Plenty) 26, Mrs J. Shanks (Otago) 4; R. Jackson (Auckland) 26, Mrs N. Millar (Southland) 11; Mrs D. Stanton (Canterbury) 26, Mrs R. Richardson (Kalapoi) 23; Jackson 26, Roberts 1; Miss Clarke 26, Mrs Millar 10; Mrs Richardson 26, Mrs Shanks 7; Mrs Stanton 26, Mrs Norris 14. Golf.—K. Arai (Japan) shot a three-under-par 69 for a 13-under-par total of 275 to win the 28 million yen (about $NZ81,426) Tokai classic golf tournament in the central Japanese city of Nagoya. T. Kono (Japan) was second and C. Cody (U.S.) third.
