Accident with tractor
A farmer suffered a broken leg when a logging tractor he was driving rolled on top of him at Lake Coleridge early yesterday afternoon. He is Mr G. J. Beatty, of 38 North Terrace, Darfield.
Mr Beatty was trapped for about an hour while his father, Mr R. G. Beatty, of 6 North Terrace, dug him free.
The elder Mr Beatty had himself suffered broken ribs when he was hit by a tree earlier in the day. He had been working away from his so.', and went to investigate when the sound of the tractor stopped. After getting his son free, Mr Beatty drove him to the Lake Coleridge homestead where a doctor was summoned and a St John Ambulance from Christchurch called.
Mr G. J. Beatty was admitted to the resuscitation ward at Christchurch Hospital where his condition last evening was described as fairly comfortable. Mr R. GBeatty was treated and discharged.
