Sections sell to $5700
Sixteen Christchurch Drainage Board sections in Avondale Road fetched $86,000 at auction on Saturday, the sections selling from $5OOO to $5700 each. About 200 persons attended the auction.
Mr J. F. Davidson, a member of the board, said last week that the reserve price for the sections was too high and that the board was profiteering on their sale.
Mr C. M. Robertson, the auctioneer, for Sherris and Wilson, Ltd, said yesterdav that the sections had fetched substantially more than the reserve price.
The first lot sold for $5OOO, and two comer sections for $5700. The average price for the 24-perch sections was $5400. Sections across the road from those sold on Saturday fetched $3300 at auction last December.
