Six literary grants
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. The Government has approved six grants totalling $lBOO recommended by the Literary Fund Advisory Committee, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) today. Grants of $3OO to assist with publication will be made to the Caxton Press for “Venus is Setting,” poems by Owen Leeming, to the Oxford University Press for “Bearings,” poems by Vincent O’Sullivan, and to Price Milbum for “Autumn Testament,” by James K. Baxter. Grants of $2OO will be made to J. D. Raeside to assist him in writing a biography of Baron de Thierry, and to the Edge Press to assist in the production of “Edge 3” and “Edge 4.”
A grant of $5OO will be made to the organisers of the Christchurch Arts Festival to assist in the payment of expenses for a number of poets who will read their work at the festival.
