(From Our Own Reporter) I TRENTHAM. I Mrs R. G. Chitty, of Whitford,! near Auckland, is delighted. She' showed interest in the catalogue for the South Island Thoroughbred Sale in Christchurch in 1970. From the two-year-old, section of that catalogue she: selected the Otago-bred Hillbank.! which is unbeaten in two starts at the Wellington winter meeting. Mrs Chitty paid $3OOO for the Mellay colt in Christchurch and within the last week the strong bay has returned $2600. His Petone Hack Handicap vic-! tory at Trentham yesterday: showed he was in a class of his: own for strength at a mile inj bad ground. Hillbank was going easily in the middle of the small field at the half-mile. Then K. Cullen took him forward quickly to lead from early in the run home and a furlong out it was only a matter of how wide his margin would be. Red Nib, the outsider but one. finished doggedly for second and put some value into the return for forecasts betters. With Hillbank a “standout” the forecast dividend of $46.65 was a good one. The South Island four-year-old Red Royal earned $lOO with a fourth. He passed two or three rivals late in the race but finished 11 lengths from the winner.
