Tax withheld again
(N.Z. Press Association)
MASTERTON, March 8.
Two years ago a Masterton woman refused to pay the part of her tax which she estimated would be allocated to defence. This year she has done it again. Mrs F. Long has deducted 20 per cent of what she owes the Inland Revenue Department and sent it to the New Zealand Medical Aid Committee for Vietnam to be used in National Liberation Front areas. Mrs Long said in a letter to the “Times-Age” this week that the organisation sends its funds to the National Liberation Red Cross to aid all victims. The reduced tax cheque was sent in yesterday—with the receipt from the Medical Aid Committee. The District Commissioner of Inland Revenue in Masterton (Mr G. A. Wardlaw) said this morning that a letter requesting the tax would be sent to Mrs Long; and then there was the possibility of action to recover the money.
