Criticism of tour policy
The New Zealand Meat Workers’ Union has condemned the statement of the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) on Monday, in which he said the Government would not interfere in sports contacts between New Zealand and South Africa.
The union secretary (Mr F. E. McNulty) said last evening that his union had consistently opposed any form of racial discrimination, and considered the actions of the National Government in ignoring the overwhelming decisions of the United Nations to ban sporting contacts with South Africa to be leading New Zealand into isolation internationally. “Our union will support any action the Federation of Labour considers necessary in support of the United Nations policy against apartheid,” Mr McNulty said.
