Methodist protest
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 7. The president of the Methodist Church of New Zealand (the Rev. R. F. Clement) has condemned the penalty imposed on a Methodist minister in South Africa. The Rev. B. Moore, a minister in the University Christian Movement, has been con-1 fined to Johannesburg and is not allowed visitors for five years. Mr Clement said he was concerned at the extraordinary penalty. ‘‘Such repressive attitudes towards their citizens are not those appropriate to a civilised nation,” he said.
“If they were prepared to learn from history, they would realise that such oppressive policies carry the seeds of their own destruction.”
The New Zealand Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa and the New Zealand Student Christian Movement have also protested about the penalty imposed on Dr Moore.
