Complaints of indecency
(New Zealand Press Association!
AUCKLAND, March 7. Auckland police yesterday received five complaints alleging that the women’s lib. advocate, Dr Germaine Greer, had used indecent language in a public place.
The complaints were lodged at the Auckland Central Police Station soon after Dr Greer had addressed a meeting at the Auckland Town Hall.
The complainants were a dress designer, a housewife,
a student, and two unemployed young men. The alleged offence occurred during the question and answer period near the •end of the meeting attended ! by Dr Greer. Dr Greer was asked if she could confirm that she used a certain word while talking on a radio programme earlier in the day.
The questioner suggested that if she had, it would be only fair and equal for the police to charge her as they had charged Mr Tim Shadbolt for using the same word. Dr Greer replied that as she remembered a woman she had talked to during the programme used the word. She then added: “If you want to give the police extra paper work, I am quite happy to say ” and she did.
Auckland police declined to comment on what action might be taken.
